Expertise in Women's Health and Childbirth

The Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics is an essential clinical department of Bangladesh Medical College, providing comprehensive healthcare services to women throughout their reproductive life and beyond since its inception in 1986.

The department provides antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care, along with comprehensive management of normal and high-risk pregnancies. It also offers services for infertility, menstrual disorders, reproductive health problems, menopause, gynaecological oncology, urogynaecology, and various gynaecological diseases.

The department is supported by qualified faculty members, resident surgeons, assistant registrars, medical officers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals who work together to ensure safe, ethical, and patient-centered care.

It provides outpatient and inpatient services, including emergency obstetric and gynaecological care, operative procedures, surgical management, and minimal access surgery.

As an academic department, it plays an important role in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. Students and trainees receive practical exposure through clinical postings, ward rounds, seminars, case discussions, and hands-on training.

The department also promotes clinical research, evidence-based practice, community awareness, and maternal and reproductive health initiatives, contributing to improved healthcare outcomes for women and newborns.
