Activities

Bangladesh Medical College (BMC) conducts structured academic activities in accordance with the curriculum of the University of Dhaka and BMDC guidelines. Teaching includes lectures, tutorials, practical classes, ward teaching, seminars, and clinical demonstrations. Regular assessments, formative evaluations, and professional examinations ensure continuous academic progress and the development of competent, ethical medical graduates.

Student Teaching

Registrars, Assistant Professors, Associate Professors and Professors teach students who are placed in the wards, every day in the morning. Students are placed in small groups. Student teaching in the morning is primarily done by Faculty Members. Registrars also teach students in the evening session. Students are required to complete their cards and other assessments criteria before being allowed to take the MBBS final professional examinations.

Post Graduate Teaching

Regular postgraduate teaching is imparted to Registrars, Assistant Registrars and Interns with regard to theory, diagnosis and management of patients. Registrars and Assistant Registrars are encouraged to attend teaching sessions in classrooms and ward. Complicated cases are routinely discussed with them with a view to train them in the management of patients. Assistant Registrars have hands on training in management of patients. The Intensive Care Unit and the Coronary Care Unit serve as ideal points for teaching critically ill patients.

Journal Club

Journal Club Meeting is held in clinical departments once weekly and are attended by all members of the departments. Papers are read by the members of the Faculty, Interns and junior doctors and important journals are regularly covered for discussion.

Audiovisual Equipment

Each class is provided with Multimedia Projectors, Computers, slide projector and microphone system. In addition, Overhead Projectors are also available for teaching in class rooms and different departments.

Seminars

Seminars and Clinical Meetings are held on a regular basis. Presentations are made by distinguished speakers from the college, from other medical institutions in Bangladesh and outside the country.

College Journal

Bangladesh Medical College Journal is a peer reviewed journal and is recognized by BM&DC. Its publication was started in 1996. It is published twice a year in January and July. The official website of the journal is www.bmcjournal.org

Morning Session

Daily discussion meetings are held every morning in clinical departments with Interns. Assistant Registrars and Faculty Members. Interesting cases that were admitted the previous day are presented in detail by the Interns and the Assistant Registrars along with the Consultant on call for the day. Symptoms, physical signs, diagnosis, investigations like X-rays, ECG and laboratory tests are discussed in detail along with management plans. The Morning Session is well attended and is an excellent teaching and learning session for all
