Biochemistry
Unraveling the Chemistry of Life
The Department of Biochemistry is an integral part of Bangladesh Medical College, dedicated to providing quality education and fostering a strong foundation in biochemical sciences among undergraduate medical and dental students. The department focuses on teaching the fundamental principles of biochemistry and their clinical applications, helping students understand the molecular basis of health and disease.
The department conducts regular theoretical and practical classes covering major areas including biophysics, biomolecules, nutritional biochemistry, the digestive system, metabolism, body fluid electrolytes, the renal system, acid–base balance, molecular biology, genetics, clinical endocrinology, and clinical biochemistry. Practical teaching emphasizes laboratory skills, biochemical investigations, sample collection, analytical techniques, quality control, and interpretation of laboratory findings.
The department is committed to student-centered learning, structured assessment, integrated teaching, and continuous academic improvement. Faculty members actively participate in curriculum planning, examinations, OSPE/SOE, academic meetings, quality assurance activities, and student mentoring. The department also emphasizes maintaining laboratory standards, effective use of teaching resources, and the professional development of faculty members.
Senior faculty members are involved not only in undergraduate teaching but also in the academic activities of postgraduate students. Senior faculty members have made significant contributions to academic literature through the authorship and co-authorship of a wide range of publications. Through dedicated teaching and academic activities, the Department of Biochemistry strives to develop competent, knowledgeable, and clinically oriented healthcare professionals.
